What is a Pyrometer Gauge?
Choose between GlowShift’s 1500F version which reads from 0 - 1500° Fahrenheit and the 2400F version which reads from 0 - 2400° Fahrenheit. A 1500° Fahrenheit Pyro Gauge Kit can be used in most turbo diesel trucks, including trucks that put more stress on their engine and generate higher exhaust gas temperatures. A 2400° Fahrenheit EGT Gauge is a better fit for cars and trucks that create excessively high exhaust gas temperatures. That would include race truck applications and big turbo builds that use a lot of fuel. Turbocharged cars can also use a 2400° Pyrometer digital or analog gauge since the turbo runs off of the exhaust. Another difference between the two is that the 2400° EGT Gauge can also be used for gas applications.
Why Are EGT Pyrometer Gauges Important?
Analog and digital Pyrometer EGT Gauges act as an indicator of how hot the exhaust gases are as they exit the combustion chamber. This exhaust temp gauge keeps you aware of the amount of afterburning that is occurring in the exhaust manifold. If your engine is running too hot, the resulting engine impact can be serious and may include melted pistons, cracked heads, destruction of the turbo, and engine failure. A Pyro Gauge Kit will keep you alerted to temperature fluctuations so you can avoid the negative consequences of excessively high exhaust gas temperatures.
What's Included with GlowShift Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge Kits?
GlowShift EGT Gauge Kits come with all parts required for installation. Included with this exhaust temp gauge is a 1/8-27 NPT Type K Thermocouple EGT Gauge Probe with Waterproof Connector that features 3’ of steel braided cable and 1/8-27 NPT threads. This analog and digital pyrometer also comes with a 3’ Power Harness, and 6’ Stainless Steel Braided Sensor Harness with Waterproof Connector that plugs into the EGT Gauge Probe Connector for a total of 9’ of wire. Additionally, you’ll receive a Gauge Visor, Mounting Hardware, and the provided Installation Instructions will walk you through the entire process step by step.
Benefits of a GlowShift Pyro Gauge Kit
Adding an Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge for diesel and gas vehicles offers benefits such as the prevention of spark plug fouling, operation of your vehicle at peak EGT, and the guarantee of peak engine performance at higher speeds. Installing a Pyrometer digital or analog Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge allows you to spot a problem sooner to avoid engine damage as well. We recommend that diesel trucks used exclusively for towing or that have been modified for enhanced performance use the 1500°F Pyrometer Diesel Gauge. The 2200° and 2400° Fahrenheit exhaust temp gauges are recommended for cars and trucks with a gas engine.
What is the EGT gauge probe included with GlowShift pyrometers?
Our EGT gauge probe is a 1/8-27 NPT Type K Thermocouple Probe which is installed to your car or truck’s exhaust manifold to access exhaust gas temperature readings. It is your pyro gauge’s sensor and is connected using the included 9’ harness.
What are EGTs and what do they measure?
EGTs stand for exhaust gas temperatures. GlowShift’s exhaust temp gauge measures your car or truck’s EGT levels to ensure they’re not running too hot which could cause wear and potential longterm damage to your vehicle.
What's included with GlowShift EGT gauge kits for cars and trucks?
Each pyro gauge kit comes with a 2-1/16” (52mm) exhaust gas temperature gauge, 1/8-27 NPT Type K Thermocouple EGT Gauge Probe, 9’ Sensor Harness, 2’ Power Harness, Gauge Visor, Mounting Bracket, Mounting Bracket Hardware and installation instructions.
